Kohima, June 17 (MExN): The Nagaland government has clarified that the prohibition on manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of all food items containing tobacco or nicotine as ingredients will remain in force for one year with effect from June 2, 2026.
In a clarification issued on Wednesday, Commissioner of Food Safety and Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Anoop Khinchi, IAS, said the enforcement period of the notification issued on June 2, 2026, shall be till June 1, 2027.
The order stated that the ban extends to food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients. “The Food Safety Officials shall ensure the implementation of the prohibition under their respective jurisdiction in co-ordination with the District Administration and Police,” it stated.
The clarification comes in response to ambiguities raised by stakeholders regarding the interpretation and implementation of the earlier notification.
