Kohima, March 2 (MExN): A visiting delegation of the Union Solidarity & Development Party (USDP), Myanmar consisting of 11 members called on the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya at Raj Bhavan Kohima today.
Governor Acharya expressed his concern for the welfare of the Nagas living in Myanmar and called for development activities in the border areas of both the countries. This was stated in a release from the PRO to Governor.
The Governor called for opening of educational institutions, hospitals, orphanages, skill development centres among others through border area development activities.
The Governor also opined that Private Public Partnership (PPP) welfare activates with participation from various NGO’s from both India and Myanmar should be encouraged for the development and strengthening both the Nations. He explained the Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), a Mumbai based NGO was working for the people of North East by organising student teacher exchange programmes, medical camps in border areas.
Governor Acharya also encouraged the delegation to arrange for Nagas of Myanmar to visit not only the State of Nagaland but to also conduct Bharat Darshan from time to time so as to strengthen ties between the two Countries. He also called for cultural exchange programme between the two countries. Acharya stated that NEZCC can also sponsor cultural programme and exchanges with Myanmar Nagas.
The delegation led by U Than Htay also expressed their desire for further developing the Naga administered areas of Myanmar. The meeting was also attended by Minister for Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along.
The delegated from the USDO was sponsored by the India Foundation, an independent research centre focused on the issues, challenges and opportunities of the Indian polity. The Foundation believes in understanding contemporary India and its global context through a civilization lens of a society on the forward move.
