Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya today gave away Governor’s Award to HSLC/HSSLC toppers, rank holders, subject toppers in Major/Modern Indian Languages & Skill Education subjects, NBSE Awards s including Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award to HSLC topper. The function was held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima on June 8.
Acharya said the curriculum of our state board is in consonance with the core curriculum of the country. For this, he said our students do have not handicap even if they go outside the state for further study.
Expressing happiness over one time award for this year to HSLC topper to commemorate 100 years of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami passing the matriculation examination in 1918, Acharya said, “I am sure this award will not only encourage the students but keep alive the memory of the first Naga matriculate Late Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire.”
Also pleased by the pass percentage of the board examinations, which, he said it is steadily on the way up and encouraging sign, adding “We cannot be complacent. We need to take steps to improve upon it.”
Sharing happiness over the performance and achievement of girl child in the state, he said they have done much better than boys. In many parts and states of the country, the plight of the girl child in the field of education is in a sorry state of affairs, he said adding, “But in Nagaland, I see a good and better future. It is because Nagas treat all equally whether boys or girls.” To the achievers, he said they contribute to national’s progress, adding “For national growth and prosperity, the country depends on bright young minds.”
Stating that the state government cannot accommodate all the educated unemployed as it is already oversaturated, he said, “We must reconsider our priorities and reform the education system to suit the changing situation. We have to venture outside the state for jobs and the private sector has almost no presence in our state,” he said. In order to address this problem, he said, education with skills empowerment is the need of the hour. Government of India is on a mission to skill youth he said and expressed happiness that the NBSE have already introduced Skill Education subjects.
Keeping in mind the importance of skill development of the students and to encourage students to embrace dignity of labour, the office of Raj Bhavan has instituted awards in skill education subjects as well as in major/modern Indian languages from this year. He said the world is changing at a rapid pace in every field. Tremendous developments are taking place especially in the realm of science and technology affecting everyone globally. “So our goals should be to re-orient the education system and equip our students to realize their full potential by focusing not only on academic excellence but also on development of appropriate life skill required to be able to compete and become resourceful citizens,” Acharya stated.
NBSE chairman Asano Sekhose told the parents of the achievers that the education process becomes complete when a tri-polar process (teacher, student- society) has taken place in it. “It is your duty to unless the child from reluctance to get in to new fields of knowledge,” she said.

HSLC topper gets Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire award
HSLC topper Vivotsonuo Sorhie of Mezhür HSS Kohima was conferred with Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award amounting to Rs. 1 lakh. This is one time award for this year to commemorate 100 years of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami passing the matriculation examination in 1918. Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire is the first Naga matriculate. Vivotsonuo Sorhie also received NBSE Award to the HSLC Topper amounting Rs. 25,000 as well as Governor’s Award to the HSLC Topper (Rs. 25,000).
HSSLC toppers receive awards
Benrithung L. Jungio of Don Bosco HSS Wokha, Marina Yashmin of Pranab Vidyapith HSS Dimapur and Virienuo Emilia Solo of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma were also received Rs. 25,000 each as part of NBSE Award to the toppers of HSSLC examination in arts, commerce and science stream respectively. They also received Governor’s Award to the toppers of HSSLC amounting to Rs. 25,000 each.
Governor’s award for achievers in MILs & skill education
In HSLC, the recipients of Governor’s award in MILs subjects include; Tenyidie- Vilhoukhono Kera of Baptist High Kohima, Sumi- Millento Achumi of Govt. HSS Zunheboto, Ao- Imnanuken Jamir of Queen Mary HSS Mokokchung, Lotha- Bideno M. Murry of Isaiah Ability School Wokha, Hindi- Sherry Jindal of Holy Cross HSS Dimapur, Bengali- Raj Paul of Pranab Vidhyapith HSS Dimapur.
In skill education subjects, the recipients include- Anushka Bhattacharjee of St. Paul HSS Dimapur under Foundation of Information Technology, Sherry Jindal of Holy Cross HSS Dimapur- Information Technology Enabling Services (Vocational) and John Moni Deka of Mayangnokcha Government HSS Mokokchung- Travel & Tourism (Vocational).
In HSSLC, the recipients of Governor’s Award in MILs incudes; Tenyidie- Vikedono Seyie of Riizhiikhrie Government HSS Kohima, Sumi- Kitoshi of Government HSS Dimapur, Ao- Imlikumzuk of Clark Memorial HSS Impur, Lotha- Orenvungi S. Ngullie of Don Bosco HSS Wokha, Hindi- Simran Yadav of Pranab Vidyapith HSS Dimapur, Bengali- Ananyo Chakrabarty of Pranab Vidyapith HSS Dimapur. The recipients of award under skill education subjects include: Informatics practices- Ritika Jain of Christian Higher HSS Dimapur, Computer Science- Abhishek Anand of Queen Mary HSS Mokokchung, Capital Markets- Ratna of Pranab Vidyapith HSS Dimapur, who also received award in Derivative Markets.
