The Nagaland State Government has announced 15 days paternity leave for male state government employees as per the Central Civil Service (Leave) Rules, 1972.

This was announced by the Nagaland State Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio on his official twitter handle today. As per the existing rules, a male state government employee (including an apprentice) with less than two surviving children, will be granted paternity leave by a competent authority.

The paternity leave will be granted for a period of 15 days, during the confinement of his wife for childbirth—up to 15 days before, or up to 6 months from the date of delivery of the child. During the 15 days period, the employee will be paid leave salary equal to the pay drawn before proceeding on leave.

It was added that the paternity leave may be combined with leave of any other kind and shall not be debited against the leave account. Further, the paternity leave shall be treated as lapsed if not availed within the period.
