The Nagaland state government has failed to meet the demands of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) regarding the regularisation of 147 assistant professors/librarians.
Following an emergency Cabinet meeting held this evening and subsequent meetings with NSF and CTAN and NNQF, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that the regularisation order has been kept in abeyance while a High Powered Committee has been constituted to examine the issue within eight weeks time.
Minister KG Kenye and Chief Secretary, J Alam were also present during the press conference.
Following the rejection of the Cabinet decision by CTAN and NNQF, Zeliang maintained that the Cabinet had deliberated at length adding “we understood the contention of the agitators” and informed that it had taken a decision.
“If eight weeks is too long for them to wait, then we’ll reduce to four weeks. Instead of eight, we decided that the HPC would be directed to submit their report within four weeks” stated Zeliang.
The Minister said, it was explained to both the groups that “for government, to take a decision, or to take a U-turn from its own decision, we need documents. We need to substantiate our decision with evidence, proof, that which year, how many have been appointed, whose time, all this finding is required.”
The government has appealed to the organisations to discuss among themselves and understand the view of the Cabinet; that within four weeks, that is three weeks from now, the HPC will submit their report and “government will surely take a positive step and action.”
He said also appealed to the aggrieved groups to put the proposed agitation on hold until the matter is discussed and decided based on the HPC report
