Nagaland govt responsible for delay in solution: NPCC

Demands resignation of State Assembly

Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday held the State government accountable for the delay in implementation of solution of the Indo-Naga peace talks.

Maintaining that the Governor functions on the advice of the Council of Ministers and cannot act suo moto when the Council of Ministers is alive unless there is breakdown of the Constitutional machinery, the NPCC alleged that the solution is lying in ‘cold storage’ as they “refuse to advise the Governor to implement solution.”

While the State Governor has time and again made it clear that “talks are over” for Nagaland, the Assembly continues to demand one solution and to resume talks, the NPCC noted. “If PDA honestly wants solution, they should advise the Governor to implement the solution and assure their support in such implementation,” it opined.

Taking a dig at the statement of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue that its demand to resume talks was meant for NSCN (IM) and not for NNPGs, the NPCC alleged that the Core Committee was ‘afraid’ to tell the NSCN (IM) directly and accused them of dragging the entire Nagas as they have no fear of the stakeholders they represent.

The option available for PDA, the NPCC said, is to advise the Governor to implement the solution. “Otherwise, they should resign and pave the way for Governor to implement the solution independently,” it asserted.

The option for the GoI is to keep the Assembly in suspended animation or dissolve the Assembly and implement the solution, it added.

‘NPF move a pretext’

Meanwhile, the NPCC also took a strong exception to the NPF’s proposal of an opposition-less government, stating that the move has “disgraced Nagaland…” before the world. “NPF joining the PDA is only to get berths in the Ministry and join in looting the public exchequer,” it alleged on Wednesday, adding that, “There is nothing they have done nor can do to speed up solution.”

Earlier, on July 20, the NPCC had dubbed the NPF move a “pretext” to “enjoy the perks of office while delaying the implementation of Naga political solution.”

Forming an opposition-less government is not the solution at this juncture, but an obstacle towards implementation of Naga political solution, it had stated. The NPCC held that NPF throwing in the towel before BJP and NDPP at this crucial juncture in Naga political history is “a total sellout of their regional pride at the altar of Hindutva politics.”
