Nagaland has 66 colleges 

• 15 government colleges  
• 51 private colleges

There are 66 colleges in Nagaland, with 15 government colleges and 51 private colleges. This was stated in Nagaland Economic Survey 2021-2022 tabled by Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland at the recently concluded Nagaland’s state assembly session.

Dimapur district occupied the highest number of colleges at 25 (one Government College and 24 private colleges). 

Kohima district has 22 (Three Government Colleges and 19 Private Colleges). Mokokchung and Phek districts have two government colleges each. Mokokchung district has four private colleges. According to the report, there is no private college in Phek district as well. Tuensang district has one Government College and two private colleges. Peren and Wokha district has one each government and private college.

Zunheboto, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng districts have one government college each but no private college. 

The status of student enrollment in government colleges during the year 2020 is 8294 comprising of 3604 males and 4690 females, whereas, in private higher education institutions, total enrolment stands 23, 017 which includes 10, 566 males and 12, 451 females.

At present, out of 66 colleges, 29 are NAAC accredited (Government Colleges 11 and private colleges- 18) and several colleges have initiated the process of assessment by NAAC.
