Nagaland Honey Bee Day: NBHM holds painting competition for students

In prelude to the 5th Edition of Nagaland Honey Bee Day 2023, scheduled to be celebrated on December 5, a painting competition for school students of Dimapur and Chümoukedima was organised by the Nagaland Bee Keeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) at its multi utility centre located in 6th Mile, Sovima village, Chümoukedima on November 10. 

The event was also aimed at creating awareness on the importance of bee-keeping and the role that honey bees play in the society. A total of 24 students from 12 schools participated in the competition where in exclusive prizes and certificates were arranged for them. 

Speaking on the occasion, Khuvozoyi Vese, Deputy Team Leader of NBHM mentioned that bees are the only insect species that provide the utmost service to humanity and its survival. “Eighty percent of all flowering plants depend on honey bees for their pollination and their products are consumed by humans either directly or indirectly,” he noted.

Even in the context of Nagaland state, Vese noted that bee-keeping has becomes of the best revenue generating sources for the farmers. “Today I’m proud to say that even for a small state like Nagaland we are able to produce about 440 metric tonnes annually,” he said. 

Due to which he expressed the need to be appreciative of the immense contribution being made by honey bees not only towards the environment but in also providing revenue for the famers and the State. “Let us conserve, save and love bees and let bees help us,” he remarked.  

At the conclusion, participation certificates were distributed to all the students while the cash prizes for the top three winners will be handed over during the Nagaland Honey Bee day on December 5.  

Consolation winners include Tolla Imlong (Class 10) from Maple Tree school, Aswaria Bahattacharjee   (Class 9) Holy Cross higher secondary school and Tinghoithing Hansing (Class 9) Delhi Public school. Judges for the competition were Wapang Ozükum and Merimvo Doulo.

2nd position, Sudip Bisaws (Class 9) from Don Bosco higher secondary school
3rd position, Linali Sumi (Class) from Delhi Public school
