Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer has stated that the Department of Higher and Technical Education has started the process to address the issue of teacher shortage at Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon.

Taking to Twitter on February 15, the Minister said: “I have understood your problems, have had a thorough discussion with officials of the Department and have started the process to immediately meet your needs.”

Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, had also addressed the issue at the floor of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Budget Session, which ended on February 15. Rio had reportedly assured that the government would address the issue within two weeks. Students of WGC have been protesting since February 13 over the lack of teachers in their college.

The Konyak Students Union has informed that the lone government college in the district, with 474 students, was functioning with only 17 teachers, out of which seven teachers were on contract basis.
