Kohima, April 10 (MExN): Nagaland’s Food & Civil Supplies Department has implemented the SMART PDS scheme, in line with directives of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, to enhance transparency, real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

Since its rollout in May 2025, stakeholders have been directed to ensure mandatory use of ePoS devices, proper recording of undistributed food grains as Closing Balance (CB), and completion of e-KYC under the NFSA Act, 2013.

Biometric ePoS devices, used by over 80.6 crore beneficiaries nationwide, capture real-time data on the AePDS portal monitored by NIC and the Centre, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Amid reports of shortfall in some districts, the department clarified that undistributed stock must be recorded as CB and carried forward as Opening Balance. Monthly allocations are auto-calculated after CB adjustments, with food grains lifted from FCI accordingly.

FPSs have been directed to strictly follow guidelines, failing which NFSA implementation may be affected. Beneficiaries can access details online, while all must complete e-KYC by April 30, 2026, or risk suspension of entitlements.
