Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland celebrated ‘Intanki National Park Day’ at Forest Protection Camp, Intanki National Park with Ved Pal Singh IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland as special invitee on March 3.
The programme was organized to commemorate the day Intanki Forest was declared as Intanki National Park and also to create awareness about the significance of the only national park in the state. The fringe village communities who are the main stakeholders were invited to discuss the way and means as to how Intanki forest can be managed better with the involvement of local communities, stated a press release received here.
Ved Pal Singh IFS encourage the participants to how fringe Communities are benefited by taking the example of some well managed National Parks in the country like Corbett Tiger Reserve and Kaziranga National Park. He spoke about how environment plays a crucial role in the overall wellbeing of mankind.
T Aochuba IFS, Director, Intanki National Park said that the idea to observe Intanki National Park Day was conceived so as to take the fringe communities on board for protection and development of the only national park of the state. He added that this will be a yearly event where more activities and initiatives will be included in the programme.
During the programme, representatives from fringe villages requested the department to help the villagers in employment opportunities in the Park and the overall development of the area. They also shared their concern about prohibited activities in the park and expressed that they will fully cooperate with the policies of the department for protection of the park.
The program was chaired by Florence Sangtam, Forest Range Officer Medziphema and started with invocation from BSI Pastor, Beisumpuikam. Altogether eight villages namely Old Beisumpui, Manglumukh, Jalukiezangdi, Jalukiekam, Jalukieram, Lilen, PHAIJOL and Beisumpuikam attended the programme.
The day also coincided with ‘World Wildlife Day 2022’ held under the theme ‘recovering key species for ecosystem restoration.’
