Kohima, February 18 (MExN): The Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, IAS in an office memorandum informed that in continuation to the Office Memorandum NO.ELE/CDT-MCMC-60/2018/PART/1320, the State Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for conduct of General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2019 is constituted.
According to a DIPR report, the Committee will be headed by Chairman -Abhijit Sinha, IAS Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland with the following members one Observer appointed by the ECI; Limawati Ao, Director, Information & Public Relations; Shahu Patole, IIS Deputy Director, News, AIR, Kohima; Alice Yhoshu, Journalist & General Secretary, Kohima Press Club; Khegukha Sema, Jt. Chief Electoral Officer.
The State Level MCMC shall perform two sets of functions: Deciding appeal from both District and Addl. CEO Committees on Certification of advertisement as per the Commission order No.509/75/2004/JS-I Dated 15th April 2004 and examining all cases of paid news on appeal against the decision of District MCMC or cases that may take up suomotu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.
Chief Electoral Officer, Abhijit Sinha, IAS also held a meeting with the members of state level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for the forthcoming General Election to Lok Sabha on February 18.
Sinha highlighted the functions of MCMC such as pre-certification, paid news and media monitoring. He also suggested organizing a media workshop on media related regulations, paid news and Model Code of Conduct cases.
