Nagaland: Mithun rearing...

A Mithun is seen grazing in a rearing area near Tening town Headquarter. Traditionally, an integral part of the socio cultural practice, mithun rearing has immense potentials for improving the economic livelihood of the rural people. According to Peren district Human Development Report (2014), the population of Mithun in Peren District declined from 3485 – 2127 from 2003 -2007, though other livestock production registered a positive growth. This is a cause for curiosity considering that the favourable climatic conditions and other survival factors in Peren, the Report said adding that state should strive to realise the potential of mithun as a source of meat, milk, hide and draught power and establish a Mithun demonstration farm as well as for breeding.
