Beat opposition NPF’s candidate Apok Jamir by 173746 votes
Morung Express News Dimapur | May 31 The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)’s candidate Tokheho Yepthomi bagged the bye-election to the lone Lok Sabha Parliamentary constituency in Nagaland by a huge margin of 173746 votes.
The bye-election, held on May 28, witnessed a straight fight between the ruling NDPP and the opposition NPF.
According to the final update by from Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland on Thursday, the total votes in favour of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Alliance (PDA) backed NPPP candidate was 594205 votes.
The opposition Naga People’s Front candidate C Apok Jamir managed to secure 420459 votes.
The total winning margin was 173746 votes.
Out of the total 1018655 voters, 3991 voters opt for none of the above (NOTA) option as per the final figure.
The state went to poll on May 28 with a voting percentage of 86.73%.
The bye-election in Nagaland was necessitated after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the NDPP leader, resigned as Member of Parliament to contest the State’s Assembly held on February 28.
