
Thuni festival from January 6
Kohima, january 2 (MExN): Thuni, the Chakhesang tribal festival will be celebrated from January 6 to 7 at Zhavame village under Phek district. The festival will be held under the aegis of Chakhesang Public Organization in collaboration with Nagaland's tourism department with Razeba Public Organization as host. The guests for the festival will include; KG Kenye, minister for power & parliamentary affairs, Zhaleo Rio, advisor urban development & municipal affairs, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, leader NPF Legislature Party, Losu Dikho, MLA Manipur and J. Kumo Sha, MLA Manipur.
Lirmen village to host 78th JKM conference from January 8-10
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 2 (MExN): Lirmen village is set to host the 78th Japukong Kaketshir Mungdang (JKM) conference from January 8 to 10, with preparations in full swing for the event. This year’s conference, themed "Ajungjen Lima Tasen" (A Whole New World) and centered on the topic “Terenlok aser Tejakleni” (Progress and Advancement), promises a lineup of significant activities and addresses. The inaugural program will feature Bashangmongba Chang, Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest. The event will be chaired by officials of the JKM, with Rev. A Mar Pongen, pastor of Lirmen Baptist Arogo, delivering the invocation. JKM Information and Publicity Secretary Temjenliba Aier is scheduled to provide key updates during the program, while B Kumzuk Longchar, Chairman of the Lirmen Village Council, will share insights on the importance of the conference. The program will also include a special number by Nokpu Kaketshir Telongjem (NKT) and an address by Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, who is the chief host of the event. Imdong Jamir, President of Japukong Senso Senden (JSS), will deliver an exhortation, and a children’s choir will present a special song titled “Ku Meim Japukong.”
NSCN (IM) condoles
Dimapur, January 2 (MExN): NSCN (IM) has mourned the passing of Dr Gina Shangkham, former President of Naga Women Union, Manipur (NWUM) who departed on January 2. The NSCN (IM) in a condolence message stated that Dr Shangkham was the “first women doctorate of the Moyon Naga tribe.” She was the founding member and President of NWUM. She was the recipient of “Laarchangnumn Award” in recognition of her self-less service for the welfare of various tribal communities. “Our thought and prayers goes to her family members. We express deep condolences to her family members and close friends,” it stated and added, “It is our prayers that the soul of Dr Gina Shangkham rest in eternal peace.”
NFR implements new time table
Maligaon, January 2 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has implemented the new train time table from January 1, 2025. A major highlight of the new time table is the speeding up of 43 trains, significantly cutting travel durations on key routes, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated in a press release. For instance, the SMVT Bengaluru-New Tinsukia Express (Train No. 22501) will now be faster by 120 minutes, while Kamakhya-Gomti Nagar Express (Train No. 15077) will save 75 minutes. Similarly, the Dibrugarh-Howrah Express (Train No. 15962) will have a reduced travel time of 60 minutes. Moreover, timings of 24 nos. of express trains have been revised to better align with passenger requirements. For example, the New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Express (Train No. 12523) will now depart from New Jalpaiguri at 08:45 hrs, while the Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Central Express (Train No. 12508) will depart Silchar at 19:30 hrs. Additionally, 16 nos. of Intra-Zonal mail/express trains and 23 nos. of DEMU trains have also been revised for passenger convenience.
