After Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi to campaign in Mizoram polls

Aizawl, October 26 (IANS): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior party leaders Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor would visit Mizoram to campaign for party candidates for the November 7 Assembly elections, party leaders said on Wednesday. Mizoram Congress media cell chairman Lalremruata Renthlei said that Priyanka Gandhi and Tharoor are likely to visit the state to intensify the party campaign on November 3 and 4. She is likely to campaign in Mizoram’s southern and western regions inhabited by people belonging to the linguistic minority. Congress General Secretary Ramesh is expected to arrive in Aizawl on Thursday. Accompanied by Mizoram Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das and senior observer Sachin Rao, he would brief the media on Friday and would hold meetings with state party leaders. They would also address election meetings during their stay in Mizoram. Rahul Gandhi had campaigned for Congress candidates in Aizawl and south Mizoram's Lunglei town during his visit on October 16 and 17. The Congress, which ruled the state till 2018, is making a bid to dislodge the ruling Mizo National Front.

Cadre surrenders to AR in Mon

Kohima, October 26 (MExN): The PRO, HQ IGAR (North) has informed on Thursday that a cadre of NSCN-R surrendered to Assam Rifles with a pistol (with mag), 10 rounds of ammunition on October 25 at Aboi, Mon. “The surrendered cadre was allegedly the kingpin for extortion related activities in the area,” the PRO stated. “The Security Forces proactively pursued the cadre for the past few months and convinced him to surrender and join the mainstream,” it added.

CPO executive meet on Oct31

Chümoukedima, October 26 (MExN): Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) has informed that it has convened an Executive Meeting on October 31 from 10:30 am onwards at CPO Hall, Chümoukedima. All concerned executive members, viz. Village chairman or representatives, office bearers of frontal organisations including CWO, CGOK, CYO, CSU, GBs as well as representatives to Angami level organisations have been directed to compulsorily attend the meeting. Manipur: Six sophisticated looted arms recovered, four arrested

Imphal, October 26 (IANS): Security forces in Manipur have recovered six looted sophisticated arms, and arrested four individuals, including two militants and two armed men in the past 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday. Police said that the combined security forces recovered six sophisticated arms including two self-loading rifles, one INSAS rifle and a large cache of ammunition and huge quantities of explosives in Thoubal district. Police also arrested two hardcore cadres of militant outfit the United National Liberation Front and two arms along with some ammunition were also recovered from them. In Churachandpur district, Manipur Police arrested two persons with two arms and some ammunition. Movement of vehicles on Manipur’s two national highways -- Imphal-Dimapur (NH-2) and Imphal-Jiribam (NH-37) -- has been almost normal. However, security escorts were provided in the vulnerable locations.
