
Government Middle School Bayavü, Kohima observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31. Kikruneinuo Liezietsu, Head Teacher GMS Bayavü shared the significance of the day and highlighted the theme ‘We need food and not tobacco.’ Resource person Teisovilie shared about the ill- effects of tobacco usage. He encouraged the students to build will power that will fight against the usage to prevent from getting into substance abuse. Students also took the pledge to never chew or smoke tobacco products and also motivate others to do the same while also to make the school campus free tobacco zone.
A talk on Janbhagidari/People’s Participation was conducted at GMS, Pungro village on June 1. It was held as a run up event for G20 under the theme, ‘One Earth, One family, One future.’
IRCS Mokokchung District Branch Volunteers led by Dr SS Akaba Longchar, Honorary Secretary on visited Khensa Village and visited three families whose houses were completely burned down in a fire accident. NSSK- Essential Newborn Care & Resuscitative training for nurses from District Hospital, CHC Chozuba, Meluri, Pfutsero was conducted at District Hospital with Dr Seyiekhrietuo Rutsa Paediatrician, DH as the resource person on June 1 and 2. The aim of the training is to impart and re-orient the health care provider the basic skills required to manage common neonatal problems related to birth asphyxia, infections, hypothermia and breastfeeding so that the health provider can provide quality health care to the newborns. In commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Education Department of Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur conducted a workshop on ‘Self-Defence” on June 2. The resource persons included the Shoalin Brothers - Master Ruokuo John Soruno, Master Meyieshielie Albert Soruno and Master Daivd Keninguto Soruno.
