Nagaland: No fatal car accident on NH-29 Purana Bazaar -Chümoukedima stretch since December 16

The Dimapur Police today informed that there were no fatal car accidents along the newly inaugurated National Highway -29 Purana Bazaar-Chümoukedima stretch since December 16 following its ongoing special ‘enforcement drive against Unsafe Driving.’

The drive included putting up ‘speed breaker’ barricades with slow down signs at strategic locations on the stretch as well as checking of vehicles.

“Very Happy to inform that no fatal accident has been reported since 16th Dec 2020 till date with the ongoing special enforcement drive #againstUnsafeDriving on the highway between Purana Bazaar and Chumoukedima,” the Dimapur Police informed in a traffic update on Twitter. 

It further shared photos of barrel drum ‘speed breakers’ put up at few locations on the highway.

The NH-29 Purana Bazaar-Chümoukedima stretch has witnessed string of accidents in the recent past, particularly in December.

Most recently, a cop returning home from work was killed at 2 ½ Mile-Darogapathar junction on December 14 when the motor-cycle he was riding was reportedly hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle, which fled the scene.

On December 13, two persons were killed in another road near the Bosco Vocational Training Centre, 3rd Mile, Dimapur. 

The Dimapur police started the enforcement drive thereafter.
