Normal traffic at the rockslide affected area along the National Highway-29 has been fully restored, the Dimapur Police informed on Monday.

“Normal vehicle traffic fully restored at the rockslide affected area on NH 29,” the police stated in a traffic update on Twitter.

Currently in the midst of a width expansion project, rockslide has been regularly occurring at the Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong stretch.

The latest occured on September 19 when avalanche of rocks hit the highway at an unstable stretch at around 7:00 AM, about a kilometre away from the Chümoukedima police check post towards Jharnapani.

One family reportedly had a narrow escape when their car was stuck in one segment of a cliff-side that caved in. They managed to get out and get to safety before the car was crushed by the rockslide.

While partial traffic was restored thereafter, the Dimapur district administration imposed restriction of all movement from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on September 20 to allow restoration works.
