Kohima, March 15 (MExN): The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (DoLM&CP), Nagaland celebrated the World Consumer Rights Day 2022 at the Directorate building.

The district offices were also directed to celebrate the day by coordinating with the civil societies and also distribute pamphlets and hand out notes to the public all across the state, K Takeeth Imchen, Additional Controller & HOD, LM&CP said in a press release. 

Based on the theme ‘fair digital finance’, K Takeeth Imchen and Deputy Controller, Relise Sangtam addressed the staff about the present day challenges of fighting Consumer Rights in the digital age where transaction has become digital and online mode in every aspect of market system. 

The officers urged the staff to keep updated with the current changes in the digital transaction in today’s' market and only than better service can be given to the general public and consumer at large. 

The Additional Controller has also directed all the district level officers to reach out to the public in their respective posting place on this day and enlightening them about the various consumers available to the public.

Dimapur: Consumer Rights Organisation (CRO), Nagaland in collaboration with DoLM&CP Nagaland observed World Consumer Rights Day at Western Chakhesang Hoho Building, Dimapur on March 15.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Controller, DoLM&CP, Dimapur Limatoshi Jamir maintained that the theme is not only about rights but more about responsibilities because with rights comes responsibilities. On the theme ‘fair digital finance’, Jamir observed that many times, even educated people gets cheated through digital finance and cited greed as one reason and advised them to be careful while tackling digital finance, stated a DIPR report.

Advocate from Dimapur District Legal Services Authority, Ketoulhoukho informed that the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 India was replaced by the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Quoting the Act, he highlighted on the various Consumer Rights and also the procedures and channels for filing complaints.

President, CRO, James Jungi while delivering the keynote address, noted that global collaborative approach was required for achieving Fair Digital Finance. He further informed that CRO has written to the Government for formation of Consumer Council in the State, seeking support for furthering their vision to enable CRO to provide better protection and promotion of Consumer Rights.

Wokha: Commemorating Word Consumer Rights Day, the Consumer Rights Organisation Wokha (CROW), Wokha District Legal Services Authority and DoLM&CP, Wokha conducted a programme at Town Hall Wokha.

DC Wokha, T Lankonsen Tsanglao in his keynote remarked that a reformation is needed in the system to streamline business, labourers and construction workers (skilled and unskilled). He said that with the assistance of Lotha Hoho, the CROW recently submitted for the rates and charge in skilled and unskilled construction works which will soon be affected in Wokha.

CROW, President, M Abel Enny expressed that people with less knowledge and are ignorant invites the business community to scam the consumers. He pointed out few sectors of business where price tempering is practiced in Wokha district. He urged the business unions participating in the programme not to temper the MRP and to avoid sales of product above MRP.

The theme speaker, Advocate Renbonthung Y Tsanglao, Panel Lawyer, WDLDA highlighted the context of Wokha business and informed all business establishments to have valid cash memos and use digital cash payment/receiving for transparency and accountability.

Advocate Shanchobeni P Lotha, PANEL LAWYER WDLSA, while briefing on Consumer Protection Act said that to insure consumers be protected from unfair trade practices the department has set up consumer redressal forum and informed the people to avail services in the district.

Short speech was delivered by DLC MSK, Lotha Eloe Hoho and K Vandan Erüi, chairman Wokh village and president, Wokha District Chairman Association.

Tuensang: World Consumer Rights Day was organized by DoLM&CP, Tuensang at Konya village, Tuensang on March 15. The event was attended by leaders from churches, councils, student bodies, citizen, villagers and the department staff.

The programme was chaired by Sashi, Executive Chairman, Konya Mütli Thangjam while invocation prayer was spoken by Rev M Limba, Pastor, Konya Baptist Church.

Welcome address was delivered by MB Kelep, Council Chairman, Konya village. Meanwhile speeches were addressed by Yemjong BN, Inspector, LMCP, Tuensang and C Chullen Chang, Assistant Controller, LMCP, Tuensang. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by M Napam, GB, Konya village.
