Nagaland observes World Tourism Day 2019

Advisor Khehovi Yeputhomi along with Tourism department officials and students at the celebration of World Tourism Day held at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on September 27. 


 

Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): Nagaland State department of Tourism observed World Tourism Day under the theme “Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all” at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on September 27 


Advisor for Tourism, Art & Culture,  H.Khehovi Yeputhomi, who graced the celebration as special guest addressing the gathering said that the celebration is being held to foster awareness among the global community of tourism's social, cultural, political and economic value and the contribution the sector can make in reaching the sustainable development goals.


Advisor also said that Nagaland has many villages and colourful communities with many beautiful locations having huge potential but yet to be fully utilized.  Stating a vision to crate holistic approach to the future of world in tourism by connecting various sector that are important for economic development, he mentioned that inauguration of  IHM institute in Nagaland which is a step where an educational institutions has been united to the tourism industry to provide skill enhancements, development and education. 


Advisor also felt the need to bridge the gaps between available qualifications and workplace skills through provision of opportunities for appropriate industry experiences. 


Reminding sustainability should not be only in terms of conservation of environment and resources but also in culture and tradition and heritage, he said that the strategy for development of tourism are not in conflict with the environment and  have minimal negative impact.


Thanking the UNWTO for choosing India as the host for thieves year's world tourism day, Advisor was hopeful that together with the experts from the feild of tourism, the state will be able to highlight the challenges and opportunities of employment in tourism sector. 


Advisor also inaugurated Tourism Information and Ticketing Kiosk.


Martha R. Ritse, Additional Secretary, Tourism, who also chaired the programme, in her keynote address said that the day is considered a big landmark for global tourism and to make them aware of the significant role of tourism. 


Other highlights of the celebration included special number by Pretty Rythm, invocation prayer by Associate Pastor, SBC Diphupar, Mughakhi Zhimo. Vote of thanks was delivered by Deputy Director, Tourism.


The department also conducted an essay competition for students. Mothanmo M. Odyuo of MGM Higher Secondary School won the first prize and followed by Vitoka K. Chishi of Eden Higher Secondary School and Supongrepba Ao of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in second and third spot. Sixteen other participants also received consolation prizes.
