Dimapur, October 7 (MExN): One person identified as Chandra Mardi has been convicted and awarded life imprisonment for rape and murder of a minor in Dimapur.
The judgment was passed by Principal District and Session Judge, Dimapur Y Longkumer with Special Public Prosecutor, Dimapur Hutoi Yeptho conducting the prosecution case.
On April 4, 2015, the accused had raped and murdered a 4 year old whose body was found the next day.
The prosecution reportedly examined 13 witnesses and successfully proved the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, as per a press release from the Special Public Prosecutor on Wednesday.
The accused has been convicted under section 302 IPC and sentenced to life imprisonment, under Section 376 (2) (i) IPC for 10 years imprisonment and under section 6 POCSO Act for 10 years imprisonment and also ordered for payment of compensation under section 357-A CrPC to be made to the victim’s parents.
