Nagaland Online Open Chess Tournament goes national

First all-India open Tournament scheduled on July 11

 

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The 1st Nagaland All India Online Open Chess Tournament is scheduled July 11 from 5-6:30 PM.


The Nagaland Chess Enthusiasts Whatsapp Group under the aegis of Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) and in partnership with like-minded friends and well-wishers would be organising the Tournament.


The tournament would be played on Chess Arena by using the Lichess App, an open-source Internet Chess Server, with 3+0s (Blitz), and overall duration of 90 minutes.


Different prizes according to ratings and categories- Rating 0-1100 (FIDE), Rating 0-1500 (FIDE), Rating 0-1800 (FIDE), Under-9 Years, and Under-13 Years would be awarded, the organisers informed in a press release. 


Special prizes to the best Nagaland female players and the best Nagaland players in the championship, it said. 


Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the main purpose of organizing the tournament is to extend solidarity to the clarion call from various government agencies in maintaining social distancing to combat the spread of the virus, the organisers further noted. 


“In this regard, the organisers intend to encourage the players to spend more hours at home amidst COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown Period,” it added,

So far, Nagaland has witnessed several online chess tournaments during the lockdown, including a first Nagaland Women Online Open Chess Tournament on June 13.
