Nagaland Police badminton team wins 12 medals

Nagaland Police Badminton Team during the 2nd All India Police Badminton Cluster (Badminton & Table Tennis) 2026 held in Lucknow on May 13.

Dimapur, May 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Police Badminton Team secured 12 medals, including eight gold, at the 2nd All India Police Badminton Cluster (Badminton & Table Tennis) 2026 held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from May 9 to 13.

According to a press release issued by Joseph Sumi, NPS, Sports Officer and Team Manager of the Nagaland Police Badminton Team, a 12-member contingent represented Nagaland Police at the tournament and finished fourth in the overall medal tally.

Joseph Sumi successfully defended his titles in three categories for the second consecutive edition, winning gold in GO Open Men’s Singles, GO 45+ Men’s Singles, and GO Open Men’s Doubles alongside Emmanuel Shohe.

The team’s other medal winners included Dr Sentinukla and Vesuzolo Swuro, who won silver in the GO Open Women Doubles event. In the non-GO categories, Tajenkaba secured bronze in the 45+ Men’s Singles and another bronze in the 45+ Men’s Doubles with Raju Chetri. Tajenkaba and Imlirenla also won silver in the 45+ Mixed Doubles category.

Imlirenla won gold in the Non-GO 45+ Women Singles and also partnered with Uma Tamang to win gold in the Non-GO 40+ Women Doubles. Uma Tamang additionally won gold in the Non-GO 40+ Women Singles. Bendangnaro won gold in the Non-GO 35+ Women Singles and, along with Uma Tamang, secured another gold in the Non-GO 35+ Women Doubles event.

The team conveyed appreciation to Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, and officers at the Nagaland Police Complex, Chümoukedima, led by DIGP (Training) and Camp Commandant James Kinghen and CO NAPTC Ben Longkumer for facilitating the team’s participation in the tournament.
