Dimapur, February 2 (MExN): With the reports of a new type of drug called ‘Yaba’ (Sunflower) said to have made an entry into Nagaland State, the Nagaland Police on Thursday issue an advisory on the related concern for creating awareness among the people.
Nagaland Police has upped the ante in the drive against drug users, peddlers, traffickers and smugglers in the past few days, it stated in the advisory which was widely shared on social media.
During the course of investigations into cases of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances cases in the state, and after examination of multiple drug users, the investigators have noticed a discernible and visible pattern, the police stated.
The users and addicts show visible and prominent physiological changes in the jaw and dental patterns and discolouration of the teeth of the regular Yaba (Sunflower).
“These erosions are possibly due to the corrosive effect of the drugs used by 'oral administration'. A few sample photographs of teeth-decay or corrosion are enclosed. Although teeth deformities may not be conclusive evidence of drug abuse but are a good initial indicator that a person may be using drugs,” it stated.
Therefore, Nagaland Police said, “this advisory is being issued for the benefit of the public at large and parents in particular so that these subtle changes can be noticed in the suspected drug users and timely actions can be taken especially among vulnerable sections of the society like children and adolescents and our near and dear ones can be attended to through interventions and rehabilitation.”
