An officer of the Nagaland Police is under arrest for alleged armed intimidation of a civilian. The officer was arrested by the Diphupar Police Station based on a complaint filed by the victim on July 31.
The victim, Khrovota, a Field Executive of the Delhivery courier company, alleged that the incident occurred around 1:10 pm, Friday, at Naga United village, Chümoukedima. He told the media, on August 1, that he had delivered a Cash on Delivery parcel worth Rs 600 to the accused. After receiving the parcel, the accused allegedly opened the package without making the payment, and subsequently refused to pay claiming the content was not what was ordered.
When he was told that company policy dictated payment before opening COD packages, and that any return or refund must be processed through official channels, the accused reportedly became aggressive. He pulled out a pistol to threaten the delivery agent. The situation was defused after the accused officer’s driver reportedly intervened.
Following the incident, Khrovota informed his manager, and filed a complaint at the Diphupar Police Station. The accused was identified as one Blesto Zhimo, reported to be the Officer-in-Charge of a police station in Zunheboto district.
With reports of pressure to arrive at a compromise, Khrovota maintained that he will stand his ground. “I will not withdraw it. I am the victim,” Khrovota said.
The Western Chakhesang Youth Front (WCYF) condemned the action of the police officer. While stating that there is no place for such harassment in society, WCYF President, Wekupe Therie asserted that the law should take its course.
As on Saturday evening, the complaint was registered at the Diphupar Police Station. The accused Blesto Zhimo was booked under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 25 (1A) of the Arms Act.
