Nagaland Police to intensify drive against traffic violations

Kohima, February 7 (MExN): In order to control various traffic violations in the state, Nagaland Police on Tuesday stated that it has been conducting special drive since February 1. In order to inculcate traffic discipline and to reduce accidents, rash and negligent driving and control various offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, Nagaland Police will intensify and continue these actions, it stated in a notification. 

Further, it has come to the notice of the Police Department that many vehicles are plying in the state of Nagaland without proper vehicular registration/no registration number; vehicles with AF (Applied For) as mentioned; government vehicles were purchased in the auction and yet the registration of the vehicle has not been changed; government vehicles being used by retired government officers.

As per the provisions of the MV Act the vehicles have to be registered in the name of the new owner within a stipulated time period.  Any violation results in legal action as per the provisions of the MV Act.  Hence, it brought to the notice of the general public that the vehicles in categories (a) and (b) if found plying on the roads will be subject to immediate confiscation and further legal action, it sated.

The police stated that the possibility of such government vehicles (categories (c) & (d) above) being misused for illegal activities during the upcoming election to the state legislative assembly cannot be ruled out.  In view of the above, the owners of the vehicles in category (c) are hereby informed to contact the nearest sp office along with the relevant documents for having applied for registration and give an undertaking that the vehicle shall not be used for any illegal activities which would violate the model code of conduct.

It also stated that retired officers using government vehicles are requested to return the vehicle to the concerned department or not to use the same till the completion of the election process.

“This advisory is being issued in the public interest for the convenience of the public,” Superintendent of Police (SCRB) & PRO, PHQ Nagaland stated in the notification.
