Nagaland Power dept on jungle clearing exercise

Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): The Power Department in Nagaland has informed that the months of May and October have been declared as ‘vegetation clearance months’ and the department would be conducting extensive jungle cutting exercises during these two months.

Informing this in a press release on Monday, Engineer-in-Chief Nribemo Mozhui informed that most of the unscheduled power outages in the state are caused due to vegetation or trees coming in contact with power lines. These types of power interruptions, which are avoidable to a large extent, disrupts the power supply causing much inconveniences to consumers and also adversely affects the equipment at the power sub-stations, it said.

Stating that there have been many instances where restoration of power takes days and even weeks depending on the extent of damage and accessibility to the location of faults, the release stated that the vegetation clearing exercise are being conducted as a preventive measure and in an effort to reduce power interruptions.

In this connection, it informed that the jungle cutting would be carried out during May and October along the corridor of all extra high voltage, sub-transmission and distribution lines.

The release stated that circulars have already been issued to all the working Divisions for implementation and sought the assistance of the village and colony councils, NGOs and the general populace. It also requested all concerned to inform the department whenever such clearing exercises are required in their respective areas.
