Nagaland progressing in number of areas, says MeitY Secretary

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S Krishnan today maintained that “Nagaland is progressing in number of areas, where innovation and start-ups are taking place, be it food processing, tourism and various other kinds of service.”

In his virtual address to Innovation NE Week: Tech Age & Digital Transformation at NIELIT Kohima, Krishnan said the state of Nagaland has number of people with skills which can be substantially marketed  not just in India but everywhere on the globe.

“It is important that the most modern skills and the most upgraded skills reach the people of the state,” he said. He observed that that Nagaland has a large number of people who are comfortable in English which provides for a great advantage in the economic setup.

Stating that MeitY programmes are inclusive and diverse in a way that benefits people from every part of the country, Krishnan was hopeful that the participants of the ongoing three day Innovation NE Week will take advantage of the same.

Krishnan also expressed desire to see recommendations emerge from this event in the areas of improving employability, productivity and livelihood.

He informed that out of 55 NEILIT centres in India, 20 are located in the northeast with Kohima NIELIT being one of the most active centres.

Krishnan said that MeitY has directly supported the NE states in a number of IT-related ventures adding that establishment of new semi-conductor facilities in Assam, near Guwahati, is one among them and the intent of the Government is to offer employment.

Later, NIELIT Vice Chancellor & Director General Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi said that this Innovation NE Week will help find the road map for development of the NE.

He assured that the report and recommendation from this three day event will be communicated to the respective state governments and the central government.

Three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were exchanged during the inaugural programme of Innovation NE Week. The exchange was done in the presence of NIELIT Vice Chancellor & Director General Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi; Nagaland’s IT&C commissioner & Secretary Dr G Hukugha Sema and other dignitaries.

NIELIT Kohima and Vignan TBI: This MoU was signed as a strategic partnership to boost startup incubation and market access for North Eastern innovators, with support from Vignan TBI’s national ecosystem. This MoU was exchanged between L Lanuwabang, Director, NIELIT Kohima and Sandeep Satheesan, CEO, Vignan TBI.

NIELIT Kohima and SPJIMR, Mumbai: This MoU is a collaboration to strengthen institutional capacity, enable joint training, and offer curated mentor access to emerging startups in the region. It was exchanged between L. Lanuwabang and Santosh Kumar, Executive Director, SPJIMR.

NIELIT Kohima and ACIC IIT: This MoU is a focused alliance to promote grassroots innovation, community-led entrepreneurship, and co-host regional capacity-building programs. It was exchanged between L. Lanuwabang and Prof. Saumya Singh, Director, ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation, Dhanbad.
