Nagaland RD launches People’s Plan Campaign

Kohima, October 3 (MExN): Along with the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary, the department of Rural Development today launched the People’s Plan Campaign on Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) at RD Conference Hall.

On the occasion, Commissioner and Secretary, RD, Neposo Theluo also flagged off 6 waste disposal vehicles (Kohima Sadar Phase III) funded under SPMRM.

In his address, the Commissioner and Secretary said it is befitting to launch the campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary because he believed that more power should be given to the village bodies and gram panchayats.

To achieve maximum success in implementing schemes, he maintained that there has to be convergence with all departments as no department can work in isolation. He said the RD department is expecting better coordination from the line departments this year and urged all the villages not to wait for the last moment to implement the schemes. He also hoped that the villages would all come up with good development plans according to their needs.

Director, RD, Liboni Humtsoe said October 2 is an important day for the department and expressed hope that People’s Plan Campaign will be an effective strategy for ensuring the preparation of GPDP in a campaign mode for achieving the goals.

She also informed that under SPMRM, the department could purchase 4 vehicles for sanitation for 4 khels under Kohima Village and 2 Vehicles for trade and market for Chedema and Chedema Model Village. With the addition of these 6 new vehicles, she hoped the areas would have cleaner environment and easy transportation of agriculture products to the markets which would threby enhance the economic status of the villages.

Chairman, Kohima Village Council, Hielievio Solo also thanked the department on behalf of Kohima Village, Chedema and Chedema Model for providing the Waste Disposal Vehicles.

Earlier, a PowerPoint presentation on overview of GPDP was presented by RDO, Vilopi Sakhrie and overview and success of Rurban by SPMU, Sentiyatet.

The commencement programme concluded with a vote of thanks by BDO, Kohima, Celine Thol.
