Nagaland records 101 fresh COVID cases, 3 more deaths

With the confirmation of 101 fresh COVID-19 cases, the cumulative tally of infections in Nagaland rose to 23,854 on Tuesday. The new cases were detected from 1,373 samples that were tested, indicating a daily positivity rate of 7.35 percent.

According to the daily bulletin issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) of the state Health and Family Welfare Department, the new cases were reported from ten districts— Dimapur (31), Kohima (25), Mokokchung (12), Tuensang (10), Longleng (7), Mon (6), Zunheboto (6), Kiphire (2), Peren (1), and Wokha (1). 

The death toll in the state also rose to 445 after three more deaths were reported on Tuesday. Two deaths were reported from Dimapur and the other from Wokha district. Besides the COVID-19 related deaths, a total of 14 deaths were categorised as ‘not COVID-19 related’ in the bulletin. 

On the other hand, continuing the trend of daily recoveries exceeding positive cases, 322 patients who had previously tested positive for the virus have also recovered, taking the number of recoveries in the state to 19,753. The recoveries were reported from Dimapur (205), Kohima (57), Wokha (17), Tuensang (15), Mokokchung (10), Phek (10), and Longleng (8).

With this, the active case count in the state now stands at 2,972.

District wise status

Among the districts, Dimapur has the highest number of active cases at 1,363, followed by Kohima with 600 and Mokokchung with 554. Tuensang district has 168 active cases, Zunheboto (81), Mon (61), Wokha (48), Phek (37), Kiphire (28), Longleng (27), and Peren (5).

For data reporting, the Noklak district comes under the Tuensang district as there is no separate surveillance unit for Noklak.

In terms of severity of cases, 2,736 active cases were asymptomatic, 135 were mild symptomatic, 50 were moderate on oxygen, 23 were severe on oxygen, 19 were in ICU (without ventilator) and 9 were in ICU on ventilator, according to the IDSP.

While the IDSP data indicated that 136 active cases were currently admitted in COVID Hospitals across the state and 2,604 were under home isolation, as per the total active cases in the State, 232 patients were unaccounted for.

Health officials were unavailable for comment or clarification at the time of filing this report.

Segregation of cases

As per the IDSP bulletin, the highest number of cases on Tuesday was from the self test, random test category at 47, followed by traced contacts at 43, armed forces/security personnel (4), returnees/travellers (4), and frontline workers (3).

Overall, out of the 23,854 infections reported in the state, traced contacts accounted for 7,375 cases or 31 percent, 7,315 cases were from self test, random test, 5,217 were from armed forces/security personnel, 3,704 were from returnees/travellers and 873 cases were from frontline workers.
