Nagaland: Review meeting on Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme conducted

A state level review meeting on Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme, Integrated Health Information Platform activities was held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): A state level review meeting on Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) activities was held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on May 2 and 3. 

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Nyan Kikon, State Nodal Officer, IDSP Nagaland presented the district-wise IDSP status updates. He advised the Surveillance Units to flag consistent NIL reporting health units. He reiterated the importance of quality reporting and reminded the District IDSP units that quality of report also accounts for 30% while monthly scoring is calculated. 

Dr Nyan urged the districts to remind reporting health units on Geo-tagging and to ensure reports are uploaded from the health unit’s location as the Reporting App records the place of reporting as well, while also considering the internet inaccessibility in some areas of the state. 

He informed that all the 12 districts have constituted District Surveillance Committee headed by the District Commissioner urging them to promptly conduct their Quarterly Meeting. He emphasised the importance of data sharing with other vertical programmes and regular data analysis is a must.

Dr Nyan also suggested more training for health workers on case definition and objectives of IDSP in the districts as IDSP and IHIP are very focused on case definition. Case definition, data analysis and data sharing with other vertical programmes provides added value to have IDSP and IHIP.

Dr Nyan Kikon also presented on Snake Envenoming. He stated that Snake Envenoming is one of the neglected topical diseases and as such the State Health Society had taken the initiative to include it as one of the health programmes in the State. He highlighted that under this programme, health workers will be trained to identify different categories of snake bites, how to handle anti-venom serum, treatment and prevention of snakebites, and responsibilities of District Nodal Officers. 

During the programme, the Top 5 Best Performing Districts in recognition of their Reporting Status were awarded with Citations from the State. In order of merit: Kiphire District, Noklak District, Mon District, Kohima District, and Wokha District respectively.

Earlier, Dr Limatula Aier, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur while exhorting the members stressed on the importance of quality data, data analysis and data sharing with other vertical programmes. The programme was chaired by Dr Limasenla Lemtur, State Epidemiologist, with the welcome address by Dr Kavito Zhimomi, District Surveillance Officer, Dimapur, and Status Update on IHIP Reporting was presented by Roselyn Lasuh, State Programme Officer, NISHTHA-Jhpiego.

The meeting was attended by 12 District Surveillance Units led by District Surveillance Officers, Epidemiologists, Data Managers, Data Entry Operators and Microbiologists.
