Nagaland SAMETI promotes apiculture and bee-keeping

Medziphema, September 9 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised online training programme on ‘sensitization on apiculture and promotion of bee-keeping’ for ATMA functionaries on September 8 and 9. 

Altogether, 22 ATMA functionaries from all districts of Nagaland attended the programme.

Dr Watimongla Jamir, Director SAMETI & Principal IETC i/c in her inaugural speech mentioned that bee-keeping is an enterprise which is not limited to farmers only. It can be established in one’s own backyard, which would benefit the crops in the kitchen garden, besides providing honey. She encouraged the participants to interact with the resource persons and take maximum advantage of the training program.  

Resource persons for the training were Chubanungla Shilu and Bokali A. Chikhe, Apiculture Officer & Team Member from Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM). Topics on beekeeping scope and potentials; caste of honeybees, swarming, bee equipments, apiary site selection; bee colonies management techniques and harvesting of honey and post harvest management were covered. 

Feedback was received from all participant and e-Certificates were issued to the participants.
