Dimapur, July 13 (MExN): Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) organized ‘Direct Samvad (dialogue)’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalaya Yojana (DDU-GKY), and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) on July 12.
The interaction, through a video conference, gave an opportunity to the SHG members to interact with the Prime Minister about the various activities undertaken by them, and how these had impacted their lives, according to a press release from Imonenla Imkong Phom, State Program Manager, NSRLM.
In 418 locations across Nagaland, the dialogue telecasted live by Doordashan and webcasted by National Informatics Centre (NIC) was watched by over 30,000 members of SHGs under 29 Intensive Blocks of 9 districts, it was informed.
The beneficiaries who interacted were Self-Help Groups from across the country working on anti-alcohol movement; maize value chain and marketing; brick-making unit; business correspondent sakhi and tamarind value chain and marketing; and manufacturing and marketing of sanitary napkins.
The release stated that the members through the dialogue learned of renewed commitment to leverage the power of cohesive SHG movement in contributing towards socio-economic upliftment in the rural area.
Meanwhile, it mentioned that DAY-NRLM has emerged as the largest institutional platform for women’s empowerment towards poverty alleviation in the country. DDU-GKY, RSETI and SVEP as sub-schemes of DAY-NRLM focus on supporting rural youth in accessing wage-employment and self-employment respectively.
DAY-NRLM, the release stated, seeks to mobilize all rural households into SHGs, build their skills and enable access to formal sources of finance, entitlements and services from both public and private sectors.
In Nagaland, DAY-NRLM is being implemented in 43 blocks under 9 districts. As of June 2018, more than 40,000 women have been mobilized into 4409 Self-Help Groups, which have federated into 211 Village Organizations and 12 Cluster Level Federations. Rs. 305 lakhs have been accessed as bank credit. Also, 1200 rural enterprise and 1733 rural youths are supported under SVEP and RSETI respectively, according to the release.
However, the cornerstone of the Mission’s implementation strategy is the community driven approach, it stated, adding more than 700 community members in Nagaland have been trained and are engaged to provide support to community institutions in a variety of themes, such as training and capacity building, book-keeping, livelihoods, financial services and FNHW/Gender.
