Nagaland signs MoU with SKorea’s Vision University

In a bid to create job opportunities and upgrade skills of the Naga youth, an international Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and agreement was signed here today between the Government of Nagaland and Vision University, College of Jeonju of the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

With this MoU, the state government will soon send students to Vision University for vocational courses for a period of one year.

Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education & SCERT, Deo Nukhu and Parliamentary Secretary for Technical Education, IC & T and Taxes, Tovihoto Ayemi represented the state government in signing the MoU, while Vision University President S.J. Hong signed on behalf of the University with C.S. Moon, Coordinator, Government of Nagaland, Director of Withee Mission International as witness.

Both the parties agreed on plans to improve and develop mutual, cooperative relationship through exchange of students.

Vice Chancellor of Vision University, College of Jeonju, Gong-Hee Lee said that all students from Nagaland will be given the best of what the College has to offer and will be looked after well. He believed that students who have passed out from the University shall contribute their skills to the state and society.

Commissioner and Secretary for Technical Education, F.P. Solo told media persons that the idea behind this programme is to enable the Naga youth to find jobs in foreign countries as well as to upgrade their skills so that they are fit to work in the industry sector.

Vision University will offer vocational courses for one year including technical courses like Engineering, Automobile, IT etc. and for graduates, courses like NGO management, Hospital management etc.

Stating that the state government is trying to sponsor about 15/16 students for this programme, Solo said the government will soon advertise the same for interested candidates through local papers.

According to the MoU, the state government will select scholarship students and non scholarship students. The scholarship students are divided into two categories, state scholarship students and technical trainees (one year).

Nagaland state will support 50% of the regular academy course tuition fees and 100% of training fees for technical trainees, support state scholarship students with full tuition, 100% fees for a Korean language course, support the cost of airfare, meals, medical insurance, materials and living expenses for state scholarship students and technical trainees. However, non-scholarship students will have to support themselves on all of the above costs.

The MoU states that the state government can operate a Vision Korean Language Education Centre for students who need Korean language education. If this happens, Nagaland state could support the facilities and the operating expenditure, and delegate the operation of the Centre to Withee Mission International.

The state government should give special attention to the selection of scholarship students in order to prevent the students’ intentional violations during the education period, the MOU specifies.

The Vision University, as per its defined role, offers the best education programme of Korean language and majors to state scholarship students.

Vision University offers 50% of the regular academy course tuition fees to state scholarship students and non-scholarship students.

Vision University offers 100% boarding expenses to state scholarship students and offers 50% of the boarding expense to non-scholarship students.

The Vision University, College of Jeonju, will send Korean Language teachers and offer education programme including materials to operate Vision Korean language Education Centre, the MoU states.

The MoU also states that the two parties should make efforts to develop further programmes in order to improve the relationship between Nagaland and Korea through enhancing mutual benefit in other areas.

This written agreement shall become effective on the day of signature by the representatives of the two parties, the MoU says, adding that it will be valid for five years. The contract will be renewed year by year unless one of the two parties gives notice of cancellation 1 month before the expiration.
