‘Nagaland sitting on a goldmine with natural resource materials’

Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), Dileep Baid said ‘Nagaland is sitting on a goldmine with natural resource materials, and is among the few states in India with these resources.’

Speaking at the Bloom Bazaar this evening, Baid said one of the potential sectors is the “Bamboo” described as “Green Gold’ and that Nagaland has lots of sustainable natural materials/fibres such as banana, pineapple etc.

Informing that it held a meeting here in Kohima, he said its focal point is to develop the economy and generate employment. 

Appreciating the state’s handicrafts, Baid said products from Nagaland have premium takers all over the world. However, he advised together that works need to be done on the design frame by bringing technology and making the products relevant and contemporary – a good recipe for international markets. “Let’s work together to promote these crafts out of Nagaland,” he stated.

‘Naga Handicrafts carry stories of its people’ 
To further the promotion of Nagaland’s Handicrafts and Floriculture, Minister for Women Resource Development Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse called the attention of the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

Speaking at the Bloom Bazaar as the special guest where officials of the EPCH were present, Kruse said the council, with its expertise and dedication can play a pivotal role in promoting Naga’s handicrafts on the global market.

Naga Handicrafts, she said carry with them the stories and traditions of its people and suggested for a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Horticulture and the EPCH so that Naga artisans can receive the necessary support, training and exposure to meet international standards.

“This collaboration will not only empower our craftsmen but also pave the way for Nagaland's unique handicrafts to become global treasures” said the Minister and requested the Council for Handicrafts to explore innovative marketing strategies, leveraging the authenticity and cultural richness of Nagaland's handicrafts.

Commending all those involved in making the Bloom Bazaar a vibrant hub for floriculture enthusiasts and tourists alike, Kruse said this has become a platform for women to showcase their talents and entrepreneurial spirit and encourage to more women to take on the path of entrepreneurship.

The Bloom Bazaar, she observed can harness the potential of floriculture to showcase Naga’s unique botanical diversity providing a platform for local artisans and horticulturists to display their creations, fostering a sense of community and pride in our cultural heritage. 

Participation in international trade fairs and exhibitions, Kruse said will serve as a gateway to new markets and partnerships, amplifying the global appeal of our traditional crafts. She also sought the support, collaboration and innovation of all concern to nurture the growth of Nagaland's floriculture and handicraft industries.
