Nagaland Special Development Zone a closed chapter for Wokha: Lotha Hoho

Restricts any NSDZ related activity within Wokha district

Wokha, November 13 (MExN): The Lotha Naga Tribe occupying the ancestral land within Wokha district will not participate in the Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) and it is a closed chapter, the Lotha Hoho has reiterated.

A resolution regarding the same had been conveyed to the Nagaland State Government through the Chief Secretary on October 9, 2017 and hence the NSDZ matter is already a closed chapter for the Wokha district, it added.

The earlier resolution for non-participation in the NSDZ initiative was reaffirmed by the Lotha organisations at Bhandari on November 11, the Lotha Hoho informed in a memorandum issued by its Chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung and General Secretary Tsupon Murry

Accordingly, it directed and informed all concerned that no Lotha organisation or individual will participate in any NSDZ related meeting of the Nagaland State Government.

Meanwhile, the Lotha Hoho further noted that it has came to its knowledge that the State Government  had directed the department of Land Records and Survey to carry out a detailed survey and mapping of the Western Wokha district foothill area.

To this end, it directed all Lotha organisations, including villages’ authorities, not to allow any NSDZ related survey or other activity within their respective jurisdiction.

“Any NSDZ related activity to be prevented by taking appropriate action by the concerned Local organisation and village authority,” it added.

The Lotha Hoho further notified that “anyone attempting to initiate any NSDZ related activity within Wokha district will be doing so at his/her/their own risk.”

“The Lotha Lotha or any other unit Lotha organisation will not be responsible for any consequence that may arise in the course of taking preventive action,” it added.

Meanwhile, in a meeting held in Bhandari on November 11 to discuss the NSDZ, members present, including civil society organisations leaders, village council chairmen and GBs, reported objected “strongly” to the meeting and no further discussion could be held.

The members present were of the strong view that they could not be part of any NSDZ meetings, stated the ‘Minutes of Meeting’ issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bhandari.
