Nagaland starts coaching camp for zonal qualifying round for Santosh Trophy 2024

Nagaland has started its intensive coaching camp since October 10 for zonal qualifying round of the upcoming 78th Senior Men’s National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy 2024-25).

For North Eastern states, Nagaland has been placed in Group E with Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Group D category includes; Tripura, Manipur, Sikkim and Mizoram.

The zonal qualifying round for Group E will take place in Assam.

Talking to media persons at the ongoing coaching camp at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, Roko Angami as the head coach said that Nagaland has started the coaching camp under the leadership of Nagaland Football Association (NFA) President K Neibou Sekhose.

“We are going to play zonal qualifying round against Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in the first week of November,” he said.

The final selection for Nagaland team will be done within few days time.

In the meantime, Roko said that the aspirant players who are undergoing in this coaching camp, were selected during the recently concluded NFA’s official tournament-i.e. 23rd Inter-District Football Championship (Dr. T Ao Trophy 2024) at Tuensang.

For Nagaland team in this zonal qualifying round, Roko, who is also OSD (Sports), Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, said that he will be assisted by assistant coach Khwetelhi Thopi along with Zakielietuo Seletsu as physio, Vizovor Liezietsu as goal keeper coach including one official from NFA as team manager.

Sharing the ongoing preparation, assistant coach Khwetelhi Thopi said, “We are doing much better as compare to other years.”

He was hopeful that, Nagaland would qualify for Santosh Trophy 2024 and requested the people to remember them in their prayer as Nagaland team will be going to Assam by the 1st week of November for zonal qualifying round matches.
