Nagaland State Disability Forum formed

Dimapur, January 18: The first Nagaland State level Disable People’s Organization, comprising of leaders and co-ordinators of five Community Based Rehabilitation Projects, workshop was held at AIDA, Dimapur on January 16 and 17.

Total 30 DPO leaders and their Co-ordinators attended the workshop where Nagaland State Disability Forum was formed with a term of one year.

The Forum is going to be a separate entity and will be registered and campaigned for individual PWD enrolment. At present, the five Community Based Rehabilitation NGOs covered 1500 people with disabilities in the Nagaland. The forum will soon start individual registration campaign.

Venkatesa Reddy from Community Based Rehabilitation Forum Bangalore was the resource person. He emphasized on the importance of grass-root level DPO involvement, explained the process of DPO formation, and made power point presentation on important Acts related to persons with disabilities.

The Forum will be lead by President- Kezhaleto  Zecho (Youth Action for Rural Development Kohima); Vice president- Jal Bahadur  Chetri  (People in Need Foundation Dimapur); Secretary- Munu (Development Association of Nagaland Dimapur); Jt. Secretary- Moaakum Kichu (Care and Support Society Mokokchung); Treasurer- Chumbeni Mozhui. CBR Forum Bangalore sponsored the workshop and PNF Dimapur organized it.
