Nagaland: Students urged to constantly search for knowledge

ANCSU holds 43rd Foundation Day-cum-degree subject toppers felicitation programme

The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) observed its 43rd Foundation Day-cum- degree subject toppers felicitation programme at Molu Ki Conference Hall, Kohima on August 2. 

Speaking on the occasion as the guest speaker, Dr Maongsangba, Controller of Examination, Nagaland University (NU) Lumami urged upon the students to constantly search for knowledge with scientist temper. Stating that the subject toppers are second to none, he urged upon the students to strive for excellence.

Asking them to look beyond for greater achievements in life, he said, “People will look down on you if u cannot go beyond this.”

Stating that they have still a long way to go, he urged upon them to work hard and soar high like eagles. He called upon the students to stay focus on their vision and accept the challenges ahead.

Quoting Mike Murdock as the saying “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine,” he called upon the students to be attentive, adding that daily routine will determine their success. “Do not misuse your time. Don’t misuse your mobile technology but take it as app to help you to achieve success and climb the ladder of success,” he said.
He also urged the students to study with a sense of responsibility, reminding that hard work is a key to success.
 
Be an agent of change
ANCSU former president, Theja Therie called upon the students to be an agent of change in the society. “We must be an agent of change,” he said.

Stating that ANCSU has a social responsibility apart from their academic pursuit, he urged the ANCSU to try to raise their voices on the various issues confronting the present society. He wanted ANCSU to be more assertive, more decisive, more focus and exercise good social responsibility. “We all should march towards the reality,” he said adding “Let us try to raise our voice and try to change our society.”

“We can bring change,” he said adding the college students can understand the issue very loud and clear to bring social change.

He also called upon ANCSU to involve in the policy making to bring transformation in the society.

Stating that the state of Nagaland is passing through a kind of mutual admiration society, he said “We admire each other.

We appreciate each other. We talk about good each other.” “If we continue to live in this comfort zone, I don’t know what progress we will make,” he said and called upon the people to raise their voice to keep pace in the fast changing world.
 
Utilizes 24 hours productively
Dr Medongoi Rhakho, Deputy Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Nagaland congratulated all the subject toppers and at the same time, asked them not to rest on their laurels.   “If you don’t give more efforts beyond this and stay complacent with this achievement, your friends will take it as just a luck and not as a real success,” he reminded the subject toppers.

In this, he called upon the achievers to continue to give their best efforts so that people will take their achievement as a real success and not just a luck. Stating that even the richest person and the most popular person in the world have only 24 hours in a day, he stressed on the need to value and utilizes the same “productively and meaningfully.”
 
ANCSU pioneers honoured 
ANCSU President, Toito D Chishi paid his outmost respect to the pioneers of ANCSU who have struggled enough and faced every obstacle during the most difficult times. “They braved the odds and established the Union for the future generation, their vision to bring the colleges together within our state and uphold oneness and unity, and for the safeguard of our college students, fight for the welfare and interest of the student’s community,” Chishi said.

“I sincerely acknowledge and appreciate all the sacrifices they made as it is only because of them the ANCSU stands tall today,” he said.

From its inception 1979 till 2018, he said, ANCSU has never felicitated the degree toppers but in the year 2018 during the presidentship of Katho P Awomi, ANCSU felt the need that the degree toppers students should be felicitated and “from the year 2018 till date ANCSU has been felicitating our degree students along with our foundation day.”

Stating that students and youth are the strongest pillar of the society, he said “Our future depends on how we contribute today. Therefore, it is imperative to identify, understand and address the pertinent issues and challenges we face today. “

He informed that 5705 candidates have cleared the recent Nagaland University examinations out of 6770 appeared.

“The pass percentage is 84.27%. The union is indeed happy and glad that our students are performing better,” he said.

Urging the students to take the right motivation and support along with hard work to deliberate on ways and means to improve performance, he said “Let us all be a responsible and model citizen who will bring pride and glory to our Naga community as a whole.”

The programme was chaired by ANCSU vice president Kahovi Z Rochill. The degree toppers felicitation was led by ANCSU education secretary Imtinaro Imsong while Viziesieno Yhoshü from Japfii Christian College, Kigwema spoke on behalf of the toppers. Zakevi Kesen, Associate youth pastor, Rengma Baptist Church Kohima invoked God’s blessing while Kewekhro L. Mero, Pfutsero Government College presented a special number.  Vote of thanks was proposed by ANCSU General Secretary, Tenyesinlo Bukh.
