
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 27 (MExN): Consequent upon the announcement of the schedule for the General Election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly -- 2023 by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland has informed of the measure put in place to curb the use of “money power and various forms of inducements” in view of the upcoming Nagaland Assembly Elections scheduled to begin from January 27.
A press release from the CEO Nagaland informed that the ECI has vested powers to several Central and State enforcement agencies to curb such practices.
The Income Tax Department has been empowered for the purpose of effective monitoring of election expenditures of the candidates and for curbing the use of black money during the election process. It has formed Surveillance Teams, Air Intelligence Units (AIU), Rail Intelligence Unit (RUI) and a 24x7 Control Room.
The CEO further informed that surveillance teams covering all the districts in the state of Nagaland; Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at all commercial airports including Dimapur Airport; 24x7 Control Room-cum Complaint Monitoring Cell at Dimapur; Camp Office at Circuit House, Kohima; and Rail Intelligence Unit (MU) at Dimapur Railway Station have been set up.
Further, all airports in the state, major railway stations, hotels, farm houses, hawala agents, financial brokers, cash couriers, pawn brokers and other suspicious agencies/ persons likely to be used for movement of unaccounted cash during election process will be kept under close surveillance by the Income Tax Department.
