Kohima, February 25 (MExN): Teachers in Nagaland will now have to maintain a ‘Teacher’s Diary’ to record lesson plans and activities on a daily basis. The teacher will also have record the performance of every student on a monthly basis.

Chief Secretary Temjen Toy, who launched the diary on Tuesday at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima, was optimistic that it would not only monitor but also motivate teachers to work hard.

He lauded the Department of School Education for the initiative and encouraged the department to be more ‘clinical’ in its approach towards rationalization of schools or teachers or other activities, a report from the DIPR stated.

Stating that no rules and regulations could ensure that we put in our best if teachers are only concerned about their rights and benefits, the Chief Secretary informed the department to tell teachers to “perform or perish, as there is no room for complacency and indiscipline.”

Principal Secretary, School Education, Menukhol John pointed out that the Teacher's Diary would not only maintain a check on the attendance of teachers but also help in improving their teaching and assessment skills. It is a small step for teachers to reassess what they have done in the classroom, what they intend to do in the classroom and who are the students they are teaching and how do they perform, he added.

John said that the department would be constantly on its toes to see improvement in the coming years and urged the teachers to take their profession seriously, as ‘teachers are the stewards in making someone’s life.

Other speakers during the launch programme included Principal Director, Shanavas C and Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Kevileno Angami.
