Nagaland to assist Coir Board, IIE for marketing coir products

The state government today inked another chapter in the industrial map as it has given an assurance to the Coir Board, Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) to assist marketing strategy of coir products for entrepreneurs in the state.

Communicating this during the seminar on Coir Geo Textiles here at Hotel Japfu, Alemtemshi Jamir, Agriculture Production Commissioner stated that the state may not take coconut plantation on large scale, however, the use and utility speaks high volume of its strength, for which, the government will definitely look into a correct perspective in assisting the marketing aspects.

If any entrepreneur wishes to market the product, he said the government would assist them in all possible manners, he assured. 

Further, Jamir was hopeful that the Coir Board and IIE would also extend some subsidy package to the entrepreneurs desiring to involve in marketing venture.  He also informed the gathering that a net has been spread out in the landslide area near Naga Hospital, wherein landslide has been reasonably controlled.

The assurance from Jamir, has been well received by the visiting teams of Coir Board and IIE.

Lalthara, Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Nagaland stressed the need for building up entrepreneurship spirit on coir products.

He was of the view that the Coir Board and IIE can play an important role and at the same time assured to the Coir Board to work together in promoting the coir products in the state.

Earlier, Dr. SK Saikia from IIE informed that the Coir Board desires to focus on growing more coconut from Nagaland.

Also highlighting the various initiatives of the Coir Board and IIE in the state in the form of conducting trainings, exposure trips and seminar, he said that it would continue to open ways to the entrepreneurs, adding that Kos Zhasa from Nagaland has been included in the list of its team to Japan and South Korea by March 7.

Saikia amply made it clear that the seminar being held in Nagaland was mainly targeting on marketing aspects of coir products in the state.

The Coir Board and IIE has been organizing seminar on Coir Geo Textiles across the north eastern states. The next seminar is scheduled for February 23 at Itanagar, he added. 

M. Sudhararn Pillai, Joint Director, Coir Board also spoke on the occasion. 

G. Keppen Rengma, Director of Industries and Commerce, Nagaland including various government officials, army official and several entrepreneurs attended the seminar. It may be recalled that the objective of the seminar was to raise the awareness level about coir geo textile among the policy formulators, decision makers and end users of the respective states, to promote frequent application of use of coir geo textiles in different use in the state particularly in controlling soil erosion.

To indicate the product uniqueness in terms of its environmental sustain ability was also figured in its objectives.
