Nagaland CM Dr Neiphiu Rio chaired a high-level meeting at the NOA Office in Kohima on August 4 to review ongoing sports initiatives.
KOHIMA, AUGUST 4 (MExN): Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) President and Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio, chaired a high-level meeting at the NOA Office in Kohima on August 4 to review ongoing sports initiatives and deliberate on major upcoming events that are set to shape the future of sports in the state.
During the meeting, key discussions were held on the 39th National Games, scheduled to be hosted by Meghalaya in February 2027. Nagaland has formally proposed to co-host the Wrestling discipline, highlighting the state’s growing strength and infrastructure in combat sports.
The NOA President also reviewed preparations for the next edition of the North East Games. Originally scheduled for October 2025, the event has now been postponed to early 2026 and will be hosted by Tripura.
The meeting further discussed detailed planning for two major events— the UWW Alysh Belt Wrestling and Naga Wrestling World Championship, scheduled to be held from November 15 to 23, 2025, and the inaugural edition of the Dr T. Ao Junior (Girls) National Football Championship.
Dr Rio also inspected the NOA gym facility, which is nearing completion. Recruitment advertisements have been issued for the posts of Gym Instructor, Multi-Tasking Assistant, and Cleaner. The facility is expected to become operational shortly.
Reiterating his commitment to strengthening the state’s sports ecosystem, Dr Rio emphasized Nagaland’s goal of becoming a key contributor to national and international sporting platforms.
