Nagaland to host NE Pencak Zone Silat Women’s League

Dimapur, February 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association  (NPSA) is set to host the ASMITA Khelo India Pencak Silat Women’s League, North East Zone from March 17-18.

Around 500 female athletes from across the NE states are expected to compete in various categories in the two-day event scheduled at the Dimapur Badminton Club (DBC) indoor stadium. 

The categories include Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior divisions in both combat and artistic events. 

The artistic events will feature Tunggal (Single), Creative Solo (Single), Ganda (Dual) and Regu (Team) performances.

As per an NPSA release, winners will be awarded cash prizes by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), with Gold medalists receiving Rs 6000, Silver medalists Rs 4000  and Bronze medalists Rs 2000/- in all events. 

Further, all Gold medalists will earn the opportunity to represent their state in the upcoming Khelo India National Pencak Silat Women’s League 2025, it said. 
The event is supported by MYAS and supervised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI)  and aimed promoting women’s participation in sports and identify promising talent in the region, it added. 

The Khelo India initiative, launched by the Government of India, is a flagship programme aimed at fostering a sporting culture in the country by identifying and supporting young athletes. 

As a part of this initiative, the Indian Pencak Silat Federation (IPSF) recognised by the MYAS has been given the opportunity to host Pencak Silat competitions in 5 different zones across India, the release informed. 

This move is aimed at providing a structured platform for Pencak Silat Athletes from different regions to showcase their talent and further strengthen India’s presence in the International Games, it said. 

The ASMITA Khelo India Pencak Silat Women’s League is focused on empowering female athletes, providing them with a national platform and encouraging participation in martial arts, it added. 

The NPSA also invited all aspiring Pencak Silat athletes and sports enthusiasts to witness event and support the young talents of the Nagaland and the NE.
