Nagaland is all set to present before the Local Border Commission on Assam-Nagaland border dispute its claim during the commission’s fifth hearing scheduled for November 15 and 16 at Guwahati. A team of official representatives to be led by Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner T.N Mannen will leave for Guwahati to attend the hearing along with the State Advocate General and his subordinate on Wednesday.

During the two-day hearing, both Nagaland and Assam will present their respective areas maps prepared on 1/50,000 scale toposheet respectively. Nagaland will present its claim on the areas in the map before the commission on the first day of the hearing while Assam will present on the second day.

The local border commission had so far held four hearing, two each in Guwahati and Dimapur earlier. The last hearing held at Dimapur was concluded abruptly as the commission found that the maps of claimed areas presented to the commission by both Assam and Nagaland were not uniform as it was prepared on different scale. In this regard, the commission directed both the State government to prepare their map on the same scale of 1:50,000. The Commission also directed the Survey of India to assist the two contending state in preparing the same map.

“We’ve already prepared our map on the prescribed scale and the same was submitted to the Survey of India. So far there is no response from the Survey of India, but we’re are prepared to present before the commission with the same map,” said a highly placed official from Nagaland.

After the November 15 and 16 hearing for the Assam- Nagaland border, it was learnt that the commission will again sit for a two day hearing for Arunachal-Assam again on November 19 and 20 next.
