Dimapur, December 16 (MExN): Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (SSN), in collaboration with Dream a Dream, conducted a three-day State Resource Group (SRG) Training on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) for Education Beyond the Classroom (EBRC) ToT and DIET faculty from December 10 to 12 at the DAN, Chekiye, Chümoukedima.

The training is part of an ongoing initiative to build a dedicated team of State Resource Personnel who will lead and support the rollout of SEL across schools in Nagaland, the SSN stated in a press release received here.

A total of 27 EBRC Training of Trainers (ToT) and two District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) faculty members, nominated as SRG participants, attended the intensive sessions aimed at equipping them to train teachers and facilitate SEL implementation at scale, it said.

The four key areas of focus during the training were developing self-awareness, creating supportive learning communities, contextualising SEL within local realities, and building a joyful, inclusive learning environment.

Participants engaged in experiential activities such as Big Ideas, Beautiful You, Theatre, River of Life, Listen Not Listening, and Poetry Process, designed to deepen emotional awareness, empathy, creativity, and reflective thinking, the release noted.

Resource persons from Dream a Dream facilitated the sessions, highlighting the importance of SEL in enhancing student well-being, strengthening classroom relationships, and improving overall learning outcomes, it said.

Officials from the Department of School Education and SSN emphasised that the SRG training is a crucial step toward integrating SEL into teacher education and classroom practices, it added.
The training concluded with a session on contextualising SEL for Nagaland’s education system.

As per the SSN, Dream a Dream has been collaborating with the state education system, including the Directorate of School Education, NBSE, and SCERT, for the past three years to mainstream SEL in schools.

This training marks a continued effort to integrate SEL into the culture and teaching practices of Nagaland’s schools, it added.
