
Lumami, November 13 (MExN): Marking a historic moment, Nagaland University (NU) is all set to represent the state at the Association of Indian Universities.
On November 13, during the third day of the tournament, NU secured its place among the semi-finalists, marking a major milestone in the university’s sports journey. Hosted at the Dr T Ao Football Ground in Lumami, Nagaland, the tournament has seen thrilling matches and competitive play.
The matches on the day featured outstanding performances from several universities. Dibrugarh University (DU) from Assam defeated Royal Global University 1-0, while the National Sports University (NSU) from Manipur dominated Sikkim Manipal University with a massive 11-0 victory. Dhanamanjuri University (DU) from Manipur clinched their semi-final spot after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Mizoram University, winning 4-3 following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
With these results, NU, along with Dibrugarh University, National Sports University, and Dhanamanjuri University, secured a place in the semi-finals, with the tournament set to continue until November 15.
This year’s North East Zone Inter-University Football Tournament is particularly significant as it is being hosted for the first time by NU, marking a major step forward for the region’s sports culture. The performance of NU is already drawing attention, as the team now looks ahead to the semi-finals and to representing Nagaland at the Khelo India University Games 2024.
