Nagaland: Whining of a Party whose downfall is imminent, NPF snaps back at NDPP’s ‘expose’

Dimapur, October 5 (MExN): Responding to allegations that Leader of the Opposition TR Zeliang failed in forging a NPF-BJP alliance to come back as the CM, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) today accused the NDPP of “inventing pseudo theories.”

A rejoinder from NPF Central today maintained that the October 4 statement by the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is “nothing more than the whining of a Party whose downfall is imminent.”

In its rejoinder, the NPF asked “To whom did TR Zeliang say that the tenure of NPF President, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu is going to be over soon and that new arrangement will take place?” The NPF said these allegations were an attempt “to drive a wedge between the President of the NPF, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, TR Zeliang.” It termed this as a “deceitful trick which holds no water and will not succeed”.

The party also condemned allegations that TR Zeliang had informed the BJP about Dr Liezietsu’s tenure.

Regarding the claim that Zeliang has been “authorized” by the BJP to form a new government, the NPF asked “when and in which platform?” The NPF maintained that any amount of “fairy tales and personal attacks” on the leader of the opposition by the NDPP to divide the NPF will not succeed.

It stated that “the perverse mentality of the NDPP is an open secret for the Naga public to see and understand because TR Zeliang is free to meet any pre-poll alliance partners, if he so desires”.

The NPF alleged that the NDPP under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio attempted to lure NPF MLAs by promising them cabinet berths and that the Chief Minister time and again “has assured NPF MLAs that BJP would be chucked-out of the PDA Government to form a BJP-less Government, should the NPF MLAs come and join him”. The NPF said that it has evidence regarding this if the NDPP wants it.

Regarding their role in the present NLA, the NPF stated that “it is prepared to be in the opposition and play the role of a constructive opposition party.” It therefore asked the present government to focus more on governance and “less on their endeavour to keep their so-called ‘firm and stable’ Government intact.”
