Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): A mother in Nagaland recently gave birth to a baby weighting 6.795 kg at birth. The baby was born at Belho’s Clinic in Walford Dimapur, Nagaland on January 24, 2023, according to Dr Akumtoshi, Neonatologist and Pediatrician from Zion Hospital.

The baby was delivered by Dr Mhasiseno Belho via cesarean section and was taken care of by Dr Akumtoshi. ‘The weight of the baby was 6.795 kg at birth. This is probably the biggest/heaviest baby delivered in Nagaland, if not one of the heaviest. This was because the baby was born to a mother with diabetes mellitus,’ Dr Akumtoshi stated in a press release on Friday.

“As a result, the baby developed respiratory distress due to a condition called ‘Transient Tachypnea of Newborn’ and also developed ‘hypoglycemia’ due to the large size of the baby,” it stated.

Immediately, the baby was shifted to NICU at Zion hospital under the care of Dr Akumtoshi. “On further investigation, the baby also had an acyanotic congenital heart disease without heart failure. Nasal CPAP for respiratory distress and immediate correction of hypoglycemia was done,” it added.

Dr Akumtoshi said that the baby was taken good care by the NICU and Pediatric staff of Zion hospital and has now fully recovered.

“The Naga couple were really excited to take their baby home without any neurological deficit. This is probably a good example of getting the right treatment at the right time,” he stated.
